ACN has just been selected as the Adoption Partner of
the new PETsMART store opening the first week of February in the Super
Wal-Mart Plaza in Asheville!
Beginning with the grand opening on Saturday, February
5, 2005 (also ACN's next adoption day), all ACN adoption events will be
held at PETsMART. In addition to the monthly event on the first Saturday
of every month, we will now be holding mini-adoption events throughout
the rest of the month. Stay tuned for more info from your Adoption Day
Coordinator for volunteers and Dog and Cat Coordinator for fosters.
Then hang on, because I think we're about to enter the point of no
return. If you've ever considered volunteering at an adoption event,
this would be a good time for us to have all hands on deck!
And that's not all... PETsMART is giving us 9 display
cases in a new adoption center inside the store for our foster
cats! Cats will be rotated in/out on a weekly basis, but they will
reside in the store 24/7 for maximum exposure to potential adopters. All
screenings and adoptions will still be handled by ACN staffers and held to
our high standards, but our ability to showcase our beautiful cats daily
instead of monthly is certain to multiply exponentially the number of
cats we are able to place into good homes.
This opens up another great volunteer opportunity as
well. We will be needing one volunteer every morning and another every
evening, seven days a week, to make sure these cats are getting the love
and socialization they need while in residence. The volunteers will also
care for their other needs, such as feeding, watering, and scooping
litter boxes. I have had so many of you tell me you only have one hour
to give each week and you wish we had something to fit that bill. Now we
do, and I can't imagine a happier way to spend the hour (okay, so 15
minutes of the hour will be in kitty litter, but I can't imagine a more
enjoyable 45 minutes than to snuggle these cats who will be aching
for your attention.)
This facet of the partnership is so critical, we cannot
miss even one volunteer shift, so please only sign up if you can commit
for at least one hour a month. We will also need some emergency back ups
and vacation reliefs. If you are interested, we will be training soon,
so please call Mary at 258-4820 and leave a message on her volunteer
line or respond to this email (it comes from Mary, so it'll reach
This is the next big step for ACN. The more animals we
adopt out, the more we can accept into foster care, the fewer who go to
the shelter, the more lives we save (and we don't just find them a place
to live, we know how to find the best homes who really want them
and will truly cherish these pets as a part of their family.) This is
what we've been waiting for, so please sign up to volunteer today.
Operators are standing by!
Thank you all for your continued support as we grow. I
always say there's nothing you all can't do and I find proof of that
every single day.

The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting
enough people to click on it daily to meet their goal of getting free
food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.
It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on
"feed an animal in need" for free. This doesn't cost you a
thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily
visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for
advertising. Set your home page to this site and click it every day.
Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.
